A #ShortLoveStory

I am not a Story Guy, but there is this one story that just happened to build up in my head. I am sure you would like it too.

This is how it goes...

A #ShortLoveStory

There was a really small village called Sarangpur. Shanker was a guy, maybe in his late twenties, who lived here or you can say was trying to survive. From a Not-so-well-to-do familiy, Shanker tried to support his mom and dad as the family was completely in debt of the filthy rich village Mukhiya. Over the time, their condition had worsened and they kept taking loans.

He was smart and logical but what could he do with just a couple of hundreds. He had nothing of value but enjoyed his level of company more than anything else yet known to him. With whatever small he earned he tried to keep everyone smiling, if not completely happy.

The summers had grown heated and the days were so much longer. One fine morning, the Mukhiya had guests visiting. They arrived in cars so posh that the villagers had never seen. Being curious, Shanker went to see who it was and apparently so did everyone else. He asked the people around and got to know that it was Surangama, the Mukhiya's daughter who had come from Mumbai to meet her dad after years. And that she had come home with a lot of friends. People standing near Shanker kept talking about how beautiful Surangama had become. Shanker couldn't see her clearly from where he was standing and feeling dejected, he left for home.

Shanker couldn't sleep that night as he kept thinking of Surangama. They once played together in the same village and studied in the same school. He never liked her full name and used to just called her Suran. Her parents wanted her to study in a better place and sent her to Mumbai when she was just 15. Since then, a lot had changed but Shanker didn't seem to realize that. He was simply excited to meet her some time soon and was positive that his Suran would recognize him.

As destiny would have it, the next day, Mukhiya called for Shanker since he knew him well and could have used some help with so many guests to attend to. Once in the house, he was loaded with a bucket list of things to do and supervise. After a while, Shanker started reading the never ending list while walking towards the door - Flowers all over - Check, Furniture cleaned - check... Don't know if it was meant to be but just then Surangama walked in from the door and collided with Shanker. They were on the floor and while they were still recovering from the shock, their eyes met... more with anger than curiosity of who it was. Shanker was awestruck with her beauty and recognized her at once. He tried to calm her down and told her who he was. Suran gave him a blank stare for a while before she could recollect their childhood together.

She was happy to have finally be with someone she knew from the village. Shanker was always around and made sure that she along with her friends had everything they required. He had fallen for her, for her changed personality and her way of talking. She now had a different accent and was fair and this attracted him more.

One day Shanker thought and decided to tell his Suran how he felt about her. He called her out of her house and near the temple and said,

"There’s something I must say to you,
These feelings my Love, Are true,
You must never forget these words I say,
You are my Saran and I love you."

Surangama was shocked as she had never expected any thing even close, to happen. Shanker had just proposed to her. She was more furious than ever. She said, "Listen! Your monthly income here in this old village, equals my daily hand expenses. You are clearly clouded and I will never love you. So, forget me & get engaged with someone else of your level."

Shanker was deeply hurt and had a fire in him to prove his worth. He was good at heart and tried to divert his mind but couldn't. Unable to understand her words complete, he left the village and came to Mumbai.

Ten Years Later...

Surangama had been on a shopping spree and happened to bump into Shanker, who was also in that mall. He was happy and couldn't hide his expression of joy. He remembered everything about the last time they met. He was just about to tell her something important when she recognized him and said,

"You are Shanker! You used to be young,
Lets buy you a perfume, you smell like dung.

Hope all is fine, good they don't sound,
Let me know if you need help around"

She added, "Now I'm married. Do you know how much my husband's salary is. He gets more than Rs. 10 lakhs a month and you cant how smart he is." On hearing this, Shanker had tears in his eyes and she was certain that it was because he was poor.

Little did she know of Fame, Fortune and Time,
That he climbed a mountain, too big for her to Mime.

After few minutes her husband came before she could say anything, her husband said, "Sir! You here? Meet my wife." He then turned to Surangama, his wife and said, "I'm going to assist this big man in his new project and it is going to be valued at more than Rs. 40,000,000. Also, just between us, Sir loved a girl but he didn't get her. That's why still he is unmarried. How much lucky the girl was. Isn't it? Now a days who can love like that way?"
